The Soft Center of NATO’s Eastern Flank

I have recently been working on a longer, analytic piece for the think tank world. The subject, highlighted in the title above, has been percolating in my Central European-centric brain for some time.

The article went live yesterday at Delphi Global Research Center, a new think tank out of Wilmington, DE that was founded by Robert Hamilton, with whom I worked virtually at the Foreign Policy Research Institute. This is my first contribution to Delphi’s mission. The article can be accessed here.

Secondly, I will be initial speaker in this year’s Monadnock Summer Lyceum on Sunday morning in Peterborough. Information about the talk—Why Foreign Policy Matters—can be found here. The talk will be streamed live on YouTube and subsequently accessible on the Lyceum website.

    Reading this renews a sense of wonder that this very large land of ours managed to come together as a nation. I look at the land across the ocean to the east and it is comprised of dozens and dozens of small nations all speaking in many tongues and maybe that is the problem – too many tongues to find common ground. I watched your lecture and, as way too normal, diplomacy is little funded or emphasized. I moved on from Peterborough and your common sense to a performance by Jacob Collier at the 2026 RPS Awards, then to his one-week residency at MIT and found optimism and joy. My Illinois daughter came and took me to his concert on May 27 at the Boston Symphony Hall. It was fabulous! Particularly because he came bounding onto the stage barefoot and never stopped moving. In times like now we need to find joy because that will get us through. Patricia
