I was asked by the Foreign Policy Research Institute (FPRI) to contribute a short piece for inclusion in a compilation of expert opinion on the recent NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey. The longer article, in which my analysis of the Czech participation at the summit is included, can be found here.
The erratic, unimpaired by knowledge or consultation, behavior of Trump leaves me horrified. After reading each of these discussions by people who know the countries and their leaders, I am more mystified than ever that Rubio and others with sanity stand quietly in the background while a world leader goes from saying a country has good people to calling the same people scum.
When I was a kid living at home, Tiber Toth a Hungarian freedom fighter who had been a wealthy man before escaping to America,lived with us. I remember my family standing with him when he became a citizen. That feeling of America being a home of pride, acceptance and kindness still remains an inner source of hope and belief. Though Trump is the antithesis of those beliefs, I don’t believe he is the future or ultimate definition of an American.
Articulate ethical people, both abroad and domestically, give me hope by providing insight and expertise. Keep up the good fight.
